TrendMoney's portfolio import reads a CSV or XLSX file straight from your broker — nothing is uploaded to a server, the parsing happens in your browser.
Two kinds of export, and why it matters
Brokers typically offer two different files:
- A holdings export — your current positions, average price, and quantity. Simple, but it has no purchase date, so an imported portfolio's performance chart will start on the day you imported it rather than when you actually bought.
- A tradebook / transaction history export — one row per fill, with the actual trade date. This is what lets your portfolio chart and XIRR reflect your real timeline.
If your broker offers both (Zerodha's Tax P&L report, Groww's transaction history, Upstox/Angel One tradebooks, Fidelity/Schwab activity reports), prefer the tradebook. TrendMoney will nudge you toward it during import if it detects your file has no date column.
Steps
- Export your holdings or tradebook file from your broker (CSV or XLSX, up to 500 rows / 2 MB).
- In TrendMoney, go to Portfolio → Import.
- Upload the file — the importer auto-detects your broker's column layout where possible.
- Review the Map step: confirm symbol, quantity, price and date columns are matched correctly. A mapped sector column carries over automatically.
- If your file has no price-per-share column (some Schwab/Vanguard exports only give a total), TrendMoney derives it from total ÷ quantity and flags rows where it had to fall back to market value instead of cost.
- Confirm the import. You can undo an entire batch from the import history if something looks wrong.
No purchase date on a holdings file?
Use Estimate dates in the review step — it matches your average price against historical closes and suggests up to three likely purchase dates with a confidence grade. Nothing is written until you confirm a date per holding.
